William Keck from TV Guide had an opportunity to dig deeper into season three with the cast. They told us that nearly every scene shot in Neverland is on a versatile set in Vancouver. They redress it to represent 12 different tropical locales. They move the plants around to make the feel of a different forest for each scene.
The entire set took about a month to construct told Colin O’Donoghue (Captain Hook). The set came together with the inspiration and mixture of Disney’s animated Peter Pan movie and the Ewok village from Return of the Jedi.
Jennifer Morrison (Emma Swan) said, “The production team has done an incredible job bringing the outside in.” Sarah McCulloch is the show’s foliage wrangler. On the set, she used about 70 percent of real plants. McCulloch said, “It took us five days to assemble all the plants.” She continued on with, “We have 200 real plants that have to be watered and pruned every day and heated at night, 30 actual tree stumps and 450 fake branches.”
Josh Dallas (Prince Charming/David Nolan) also chimed in about Neverland. He teased that the characters’ days could be numbered on the magical island. In some way or another, he suggested the island might end up returning home with them. It could be the island’s spell or its inhabitants. Regardless, the fans will just have to wait and see.
